In this context, it is often desired to integrate pre-operative imaging and planning information with live freehand ultrasound during the procedure. This is associated with challenging multi-modal registration and real-time image processing problems. I will give a detailed description of our technology for image-based CT-ultrasound registration, and present our approach for real-time respiratory motion compensation based on ultrasound. I will furthermore introduce a number of GPU-accelerated algorithms for efficient simulation and reconstruction of ultrasound. All of that is put into context by describing clinical applications in interventional oncology and cardiology.
